Carleton Place, Ontario, turned into a lively mini-Hollywood this week as Pamela Anderson and Michael Cera were spotted filming scenes for their upcoming comedy movie “Love Is Not the Answer.” The sighting on Nov. 24 drew crowds, excitement, and plenty of local pride as residents watched two major Canadian stars working right in their small town.
The film, which marks Michael Cera’s directorial debut, features a star-studded cast including Liam Neeson, Steve Coogan, Fred Hechinger, Joshua Odjick, and Jamie Dornan. According to IMDb, the story follows an aging actress who tries to manage a new movie role, her emotional son, possible romance, and old regrets in an absurdist comedy about loneliness and human connection.
As per insidehalton.com Reports, Filming for the movie has been taking place across the Ottawa region from Nov. 10 to Dec. 10, confirmed by ACTRA Ottawa. But the biggest buzz came when the production moved into Carleton Place, giving locals a rare, close-up look at Hollywood in action.
Scenes were shot around the municipal parking lot beside the local library and along the town’s main street, Bridge Street. Carleton Place Tourism even shared a video online showing Pamela Anderson walking through the picturesque downtown area.
Local councillor Linda Seccaspina said celebrity visits bring a special kind of energy to small communities. She highlighted how moments like these offer great exposure and remind visitors and residents about the charm and warmth small towns have to offer.
Longtime resident Jen Moll, who captured photos of the stars, called the experience “memorable” and said she felt lucky to be nearby during the shoot. She shared that when the film is eventually released, she’ll proudly say, “I was there and saw them film that clip!”
Residents also say that having big-name productions in town helps local businesses. Shop owners and customers on Bridge Street were excited for the chance to peek outside and spot Anderson, Cera, or other cast members during filming. Many people feel that moments like these highlight the town’s historic buildings, friendly atmosphere, and ideal backdrop for storytelling.
Carleton Place is no stranger to film crews. In recent years, projects like Mel Gibson’s “Fatman” and Hallmark films such as “Paging Mr. Darcy” and “Love in High Gear” have also used the town as a scenic setting. The continued interest from filmmakers shows how well the community fits the warm, charming look directors often seek.
“Love Is Not the Answer” is expected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026, which adds even more excitement for local residents who got a behind-the-scenes look at the production.
For now, Carleton Place is enjoying its shining moment, and locals say they’re already eager to see which celebrity might show up next to film in their growing movie-friendly town.
