HBO is actively working on a new Game of Thrones prequel called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This show is based on the famous Tales of Dunk and Egg stories by George R.R. Martin. These stories are set about 90–100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and even before House of the Dragon.
This new prequel is one of the most talked-about fantasy series right now and full filled with other genres like Drama, Action, Adventure. On December 4, 2025, HBO released a new trailer and footage for the first season. The trailer shows medieval fights, knights, dragons in the background, and the world of Westeros before the major wars begin.
Filming and Production Update
The first season was shot mainly in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where many scenes were filmed throughout 2024. This location is known for its beautiful medieval landscapes and strong production facilities.
Now in December 2025, it has been confirmed that season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will begin filming very soon. Production is set to start in Belfast again, giving fans hope that the world of Westeros will be even bigger and richer on screen next year.
What to Expect in the Prequel
The story focuses on two main characters:
- Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a brave and kind knight.
- Egg (Prince Aegon V Targaryen), his young squire who is secretly royalty.
The series promises adventure, sword fights, politics, and real medieval life. It is less about the big kingdoms and more about the personal journeys of these characters.
HBO has confirmed that the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in January 2026. The show will be available on HBO and HBO Max.
Because of the strong early interest and filming progress, the prequel has already been renewed for future seasons, meaning fans will see more of Westeros after the first season.
At the same time, House of the Dragon Season 3 has already finished filming and is set to arrive in 2026 as well, continuing the larger story of the Targaryen family in Westeros.
