Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman recently shared a funny behind-the-scenes story from filming the HBO drama “Big Little Lies.” During a new interview, Kidman revealed that she once asked her co-star Alexander Skarsgård to stop eating falafel before they filmed their romantic scenes together.

Kidman talked about the moment while appearing on the “Las Culturistas” podcast, where she discussed her strong dislike for bad breath. The actress explained that unpleasant breath is something she finds very difficult to tolerate, especially when filming close scenes with another actor.

“I cannot stand bad breath,” Kidman said during the interview. She explained that even if someone is attractive, bad breath can instantly ruin the moment for her. According to Kidman, if she notices it during a close interaction, she quickly pulls away.

The conversation then turned to her work on HBO’s hit series “Big Little Lies.” In the show, Kidman played Celeste Wright, while Skarsgård portrayed her husband Perry Wright. Their characters shared several emotional and intimate scenes throughout the series, including moments that required kissing.

Kidman remembered one specific filming day when Skarsgård arrived after eating a falafel sandwich. Because falafel often contains garlic and spices, Kidman joked that it was not the best food choice before filming romantic scenes.

During the podcast, she recalled telling her co-star directly that the snack had to go. She said she told Skarsgård, “No, no, no, Alex. I’m meant to be into you and kissing you — put away the falafel now.” Kidman also joked that after that moment, he probably never ate falafel again before filming.

She added that she made it clear that certain foods should be avoided before intimate scenes, saying “No more falafel. Not before you kiss, not before you make love.” The comment quickly gained attention online after clips from the podcast interview began circulating on social media.

Kidman and Skarsgård both received major praise for their performances in “Big Little Lies.” In fact, both actors won Emmy Awards for their roles in the first season of the series. Kidman later returned for Season 2, while Skarsgård appeared again in several guest scenes.

According to Variety, the popular HBO drama is now moving forward with “Big Little Lies” Season 3. The new season is being written by Francesca Sloane, who also co-created the series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” She will executive produce the upcoming season alongside David E. Kelley, Nicole Kidman, and Reese Witherspoon.

Kidman and Witherspoon are also expected to return as lead cast members, continuing the story that first captured audiences when the show premiered.

Kidman’s lighthearted story from the “Las Culturistas” podcast offers fans a rare look at the small and sometimes funny details that happen behind the scenes of major TV productions. Even on award-winning shows like “Big Little Lies,” actors still deal with everyday things — including making sure their co-stars skip certain foods before filming close scenes.
