Sadie Sink recently opened up about one of the most emotional scenes she filmed in Stranger Things 5. The moment shows Max Mayfield waking up from a long coma and seeing Lucas by her side. According to Sink, the scene was so powerful that many people cried on set.
The scene appears in episode seven of the final season. Max finally escapes Vecna’s dark mental prison and wakes up in a hospital room. Lucas, played by Caleb McLaughlin, has stayed close to her for almost two years. When the cameras started rolling, the mood on set changed instantly.
Sadie Sink said the scene was written in a very beautiful and emotional way, which helped her connect deeply with Max. She also praised Caleb’s performance and said she felt “very lucky” to share the moment with him. Once the scene ended, the set went silent. Then, one by one, cast members began to cry.
Actors Maya Hawke and Amybeth McNulty were among the first to tear up. Soon, Sadie and Caleb were crying too. Director Shawn Levy later shared that the emotion felt very real and powerful.
The story behind the scene makes it even stronger. Max survives because she knows Lucas has not given up on her. That belief keeps her fighting inside Vecna’s mind. Sadie explained that Max’s hope comes from knowing Lucas still believes she is there.
Another key moment shows Max helping Holly Wheeler escape, even though it means leaving her behind. Sadie said this scene was special because it showed how much Max had grown. She also shared how working with a young actor reminded her of her own early days on the show.
