Spaceballs 2 Wraps Filming As Production Reaches a Big Milestone

The long-awaited comedy sequel Spaceballs 2 has reached a major step in its journey. The team has now wrapped filming, and the update comes directly from Josh Gad, who is serving as a co-writer, producer, and actor in the movie. Gad shared the news on Facebook, calling the fast production process “Ludicrous speed,” a fun nod to the original 1987 film.

Gad also confirmed that the movie officially started filming in September 2025, and now production has been completed in record time. He spoke warmly about how he contacted Mel Brooks almost three years ago to pitch the idea. To his surprise, Brooks agreed and returned to produce and star in the sequel. Brooks also acted in the first movie, playing both Yogurt and President Skroob.

The sequel is directed by Josh Greenbaum, whom Gad praised as “one of the greatest directors” he has ever worked with. He also thanked the rest of the crew, his co-writers, Amazon MGM Studios, and the entire cast for bringing this dream project to life.

The movie brings back several major stars from the original film. Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Rick Moranis, and George Wyner are all returning to their iconic roles. Moranis’ return is especially big news because he has not acted in films for decades. Fans of the original movie are excited to see him again as the unforgettable Dark Helmet.

The new cast includes Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and Lewis Pullman. Lewis, who is Bill Pullman’s son in real life, will play Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa. This casting adds a fun, meaningful connection to the story and the original movie.

With almost forty years of new sci-fi movies and shows released since 1987, Spaceballs 2 has a huge range of material to parody. Fans can expect fresh jokes and spoofs about Star Wars, Star Trek, Avatar, Dune, The Matrix, Alien, Predator, and more. This gives the film a lot of room to explore new ideas while keeping the classic humor alive.

Spaceballs 2 is expected to release sometime in 2027, though the exact date has not been announced yet. Since filming wrapped early, the team now has plenty of time for post-production. Until then, fans will continue guessing which franchises and modern characters the movie will parody next.
