Mike White’s Emmy-winning anthology series heads to the glamour of the Côte d’Azur — and this time, the backdrop is the world’s most famous film festival.
The White Lotus is officially back in production. According to the Warner Bros. Discovery HBO has confirmed that filming has begun on Season 4 of its Emmy Award-winning anthology series, this time trading tropical beaches for the sun-soaked elegance of southern France. Creator, writer, and director Mike White is once again leading the charge — and he has picked one of the most cinematic backdrops on the planet for his latest chapter.
Production is currently underway across Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco, with some additional sequences being filmed in Paris. That said, the core of the story — along with its signature fictional White Lotus resort — will remain anchored along the iconic Côte d’Azur.
A Story Set During the Cannes Film Festival
Breaking away from its earlier tropical and Mediterranean settings, Season 4 unfolds against the glittering chaos of the Cannes Film Festival. True to the show’s proven formula, a brand-new ensemble of hotel guests and employees will be followed over the course of one tension-filled week — a setup perfectly designed for the sharp social satire and slow-burn drama that has turned this show into a global phenomenon.
A Star-Studded International Cast
Mike White has put together what may be his most globally diverse lineup yet. The confirmed principal cast includes:
Helena Bonham Carter, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
Additional cast members rounding out the season include Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet — a roster that spans generations, nationalities, and industries.
Two Iconic French Properties as the White Lotus Hotels
Staying true to the show’s tradition of showcasing breathtaking luxury properties, Season 4 will feature two real French landmarks reimagined as White Lotus outposts. The Airelles Château de la Messardière — a stunning hilltop château overlooking St. Tropez — will serve as the White Lotus du Cap. The legendary Hôtel Martinez in Cannes will be transformed into the White Lotus Cannes, placing the drama right at the center of festival territory.
The Creative Team
As with every previous season, Mike White serves as creator, sole writer, and director. He is joined by executive producers David Bernad and Mark Kamine, the same tight creative unit that has steered the show since its very first episode.
The White Lotus won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series for both its first and second seasons. With Season 3 — set in Thailand — recently wrapping to strong critical praise, anticipation for a French Riviera installment is already at a fever pitch.
