Actress Katie Leung, best known for playing Cho Chang in the Harry Potter movies, recently shared honest thoughts about her experience filming the popular series.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress explained that although the films helped launch her career, she would not want to go back to that period of her life.
Leung first appeared in the franchise in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and later continued the role in several other movies. At the time, she was still a teenager and suddenly became famous around the world. She explained that being so young made it hard for her to understand how to deal with public attention.
The actress said she was still discovering who she was as a person while filming the movies. Because of this, she often felt affected by what people said about her in the media and online.
Even though she does not regret working on the films, Leung explained that she now feels more confident and focused as an actor. She said it is easier to enjoy her work today because she understands herself better than when she first joined the magical movie series.
In another interview with The Guardian, Leung also spoke about the racist comments and online abuse she experienced during the early years of her career. She explained that those experiences affected her confidence and made her more careful about how she expressed herself in public.
Since her time in Harry Potter, Leung has continued acting in several TV series and films. She has appeared in projects like Bridgerton, as well as other shows such as The Wheel of Time and Arcane.
Meanwhile, the Harry Potter franchise is preparing for a brand-new television adaptation on HBO. The upcoming series will feature a completely new cast playing the famous characters from the books.
Although Leung’s role as Cho Chang remains an important part of the franchise’s history, the actress says she is now focused on new opportunities and future projects rather than returning to the past.
