Old Burial Hill in Marblehead, Massachusetts, is where the daytime graveyard scenes in Hocus Pocus (1993) were shot, including Max’s run-in with the bullies. Wikipedia describes a burying ground founded in 1638 with roughly 1,000 graves, 17th-century gravestone carvings and a memorial stone for Wilmot Redd, who was executed in the 1692 Salem witch trials.
Wikipedia lists two ways in: a walkway at Redd’s Pond and a stairway at Orne and Pond streets. The ground is hilly and uneven with old stone steps, so wear shoes with grip. This is a working historic cemetery, not a set: stay on paths where possible, do not sit or climb on gravestones, and skip gravestone rubbings because many of the old stones are fragile.
Marblehead is a short drive from Salem. It has its own street parking rules, so read posted signs. See our Hocus Pocus filming locations guide for how to fit it into a trip.
